Mitu Mitu
Extinct (in the wild)
The virtually unchecked devastation of the NE Brazilian Atlantic Forest has left this species perilously close to extinction. Last seen in 1984. A concerned private collector established a captive population in the late 1970s. More than 40 individuals were bred by 2000.
All black plumage, glossed purplish-blueswollen red bill with whitish tip, red legs and toes.
