Conuropsis carolinensis
Extinct
The only parrot species native to the eastern US. It was found from southern NY and to the Gulf and lived in old forests along rivers. It was called puzzi la née ("head of yellow") or pot pot chee by the Seminole and kelinky in Chickasaw.
Considered a pest, the parrakeets were easily killed in large numbers due to flocking behavior that led them to return immediately to the same location. This led to even more slaughter.
